Transportation
In addition to Taxis, both private and public (gua-guas), the Dominican Republic is fortunate to have two excellent bus lines, Metro and Caribe Tours and a host of private busses that service most cities.
Air transportation, both scheduled and charter service, is becoming more widely available. In addition to the small strip at El Portillo near Las Terrenas, Samaná's Arroyo Barril Airport is in limited operation for domestic flights.
The new "Samaná International Airport" at El Catey, schedule to open for business November 2006, will make Samaná Peninsula accessible to direct international air travel.
Car rental agencies are found at all major airports and cities, and on the Samaná Peninsula in Las Galeras, Las Terrenas and Samaná. Jeeps and motorcycles may also be rented.
Several marine transportation companies offer scheduled passenger service from Samaná to Sabana de la Mar across the bay.
No car ferry available, only passengers.
