Taxi Services

 Private taxi service to and from your hotel is readily available for any location in the Dominican Republic.
 Prices vary from a few dollars (34 pesos=1US dollar) to several hundred dollars for a full-day's excursion service.
 Generally prices between the Samaná Peninsula and Santo Domingo are about $200US one-way and $160US for Puerto Plata. Taxis are usually AC minivans (as in pictures posted on this page), and can accommodate 7 passengers in confort with room for lugage.

 For local trips, the taxi price runs about 800 pesos(less then $25US) between Samaná and Las Galeras.
 From Sanchez to Las Terrenas, taxi will be about 850 pesos($25US).
Sometimes your hotel or accommodation provider, will negotiate a better prices for you, so next time ask if you can get a discount.

 Public taxis, "gua-guas", cost about 60-80 pesos per person, between each of the city/villages and operate about every 20 minutes, from 6:00 a.m to 6:00 p.m.(dusk to dawn).
 The market in Samaná is the main terminus for gua-gua's.(Including the one for Santo Domingo or Puerto Plata)
  In Las Terrenas, accross from Paseo Mall, and in Las Galeras at the end of the road, where the Typico Restaurants are.

 Gua-gua from Las Terrenas to El Limon is 50 pesos and from El Limon to Samaná is 60 pesos.
 Gua-gua from Las Galeras to Samaná is 80 pesos per person.

 When taking a Gua-gua, be aware that you might share the ride with many people, chickens or a sack of yuca in a beatup mini van or small truck. Make sure you have the exact fare, in pesos, giving back change is not a local custom.

 One other form of transportation used locally is "motoconcho", a little motorcycle, where the driver for a few pesos(usually 20-30 pesos/person) will get to your destination within the town or the village. Is not unusual to see 2,3 or more people, pile up on one of this motoconcho.
