Although the maps presented here may not be as accurate as we would
prefer, until more detailed maps are found, they will have to suffice.
Also, many new secondary or side roads are being created as the country
grows and they are not shown as yet on any maps.
The map of Las Galeras
is taken from an old 1979 US Defense Mapping Agency marine chart titled
"Approaches to Bahia De Samana" with survey data that was current to
1977.
As it is primarily a navigational marine chart, the roads
portrayed are not well defined and in fact, as we at Samana Net have
penciled in the secondary local roads, they are not accurate.
A map of
Sanchez has yet to be found and as we find more recent and accurate
local maps, we will be adding them.
Currently, national maps are provided at many car rental agencies
and gas stations.
Local maps are provided at some of the local car or
motorcycle rental agencies.
With the exception of local back-country
excursions by 4-wheel or motorcycle riders, the traveller is advised to
use only the main roads when crossing the island or going from city to
city.
These are normally shown in red on the maps.
