Las Terrenas is reached by two main roads: one from Sanchez at the western end of the peninsula and the other from the city of Samana by way of the village of El Limon and the resort at El Portillo. Both roads follow a winding route over the mountains and through the lush valleys across the peninsula and provide a scenic and sometimes spectacular view of the rich, mountainous terrain with its simple, country life. Although the Sanchez road is the more scenic of the two, extra care must be taken traversing this route as the road is heavily traveled and contains many switchbacks and precipitous sections.

The area is served by two airports. The more distant Arroyo Barril International Airport is across the peninsula near Samana and the little airstrip at El Portillo is just a few miles east of Las Terrenas. Aerodomca has scheduled flights daily for the 30 minutes flight from Santo Domingo and air-charter service may be booked for flights from the major airports in the Dominican Republic(Puerto Plata, Santiago or Punta Cana). For more information regarding both air and ground travel, see the Transportation section of Samana Net.

With only two main roads, the Sanchez highway in the center of town and the intersecting beach road along the oceanfront, it is easy to orientate one's self to the community. Plus there are a number of tourist information services where literature, directions and maps are available for the asking. Besides the information desk in your hotel, these information services are a good place to start your exploration of all the attractions the area has to offer. For travel to the more distant parts of the beachside community, motorcycle and more-conventional taxis abound. Motorcycle, 4-wheel ATV and auto rentals are also widely available.
